How GIF's work
GIF's are based on the concept indexed color. The technique was developed
for environments where full (24-bit*)
color is not available.
The concept goes something like this: Instead of storing the amounts of
red, green, and blue in each pixel, an index into a table is stored. The
table is what stores the actual colors.
